Question by falsumnomen: Baby gifts for the parents who have everything?
My friend just had a baby and she and her husband already have everything they need–and they are financially well-off, so they won’t need diapers or formula. I would like to give them a great and lasting gift, not just a jumper or a blanket. I was thinking of something more along the lines of a savings bond or something else kind of unrelated to newborn babies, but I think it may be too impersonal. Again, I would like a gift that would last a long time. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
These are such great ideas! Thanks everyone!

Is it worth it to buy my baby Christmas presents?

Question by Mary: Is it worth it to buy my baby Christmas presents?
My baby is only 3 months, and doesn’t even seem to be aware of himself/anything around him. Rather than waste money on buying him stuff that he won’t even interact with or be able to appreciate I was thinking about just getting something nice for myself. His clothes are getting a little ragged, but he doesn’t seem to care, and I try to keep him out of public view anyways. It kinda sucks that my kid is so dull!

He’s a baby.

You don’t need to buy him stuff but you don’t need to buy yourself stuff instead. Why not do something really thoughtful and buy a savings bond in his name or something similar?

You mention he is dull…..I repeat, he’s a baby. Everything is new to him. He’s never seen it before.
It’s up to YOU to stimulate him. Check out some “educational” toys or play mats that will encourage his ability to focus or feel different textures. Look at something like Baby Einstein or similar.

If he needs clothing, get a few new or new to you things (try a consignment store- 3 month old stuff rarely gets ragged and it’s less than 1/2 the price)

And, take him out for a walk every day. He needs fresh air, and it seems you might benefit from that too. Good luck.

Some Baby Gifts You Might Want to Buy

Have you been given the task to buy some gifts for a baby that already has just about everything they could possibly need? Most people hate buying gifts and unfortunately put it off for so long that there is a sudden last minute rush to buy something – anything! Although there are many items that a baby requires, there are some gifts that people often overlook.

Lots of people who are in serious distress about what to buy often resort to buying a gift card and placing some money in it. There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with this and you can be guaranteed that the parents will be delighted to receive such a generous donation. However if you want to do something a bit more thoughtful, then a savings bond might be in order. In addition to giving the appearance that you’ve put extra thought into the gift, that money can then mature and pay for future expenditure such as college books.

Children are always needing new clothes. You can be guaranteed that they will quickly grow out of anything that is given to them or they’ll get themselves dirty. Most people who buy baby clothes buy the smallest type that can be worn immediately. It’s all very nice to be able to see the baby wearing your gift now, but what about in some months down the line? Buying clothes that will fit when they are nearer a year old will be much more appreciated. If you have no idea what the gender of the baby will be, opting for a more neutral color such as yellow or turquoise is probably a better option than pink or blue.

An old favourite for those who don’t know what to buy is the gift certificate. You could visit your local baby store and buy a certificate so that the parents can go out and buy all the baby gear they will need such as cribs and blankets. Although parents receive lots of gifts, sometimes there are certain items that are forgotten about so a gift certificate will certainly not go to waste.

Buying larger items such as gliders and diaper changing tables might seem impressive but for the parent, having a helping hand buying everyday items such as diapers and food will probably be a lot more useful. You could easily buy a gift basket and fill it up with some of the more "uninteresting" baby items.

There are of course many other gifts that you could buy however the above should hopefully point you in the right direction. Babies can easily be very costly so helping the parents out with buying essential items will make them very happy.

Need Some Great Ideas For Creative Baby Shower Gifts?

General Comments Off

Life is full of joyous occasions. One of the most magical times in a woman’s life is her baby shower. This is the day when loved ones and friends come to celebrate the incredible milestone of pregnancy and birth. A special celebration calls for special gifts. Baby shower attendees can have tremendous fun choosing creative baby shower gifts.

Some gifts may include clothes and diapers, baby furniture or other baby supplies such as bottles. However a creative baby shower gift can be a conversation starter and provoke stories and much laughter. A great example is a photo album with the mom to be in the photos. Call her mom or sister and ask them for some of her old baby photos and pop them into the baby album. When the mom-to-be opens her gift and flips through the album she’ll be shocked to see her baby face!

Creative baby shower gifts don’t have to cost a lot of money. Thoughtful home made shower gifts are sometimes the most welcomed. If you crochet or knit, consider baby booties or a baby blanket as a useful gift. Baby booties are so tiny they would take a few moments to make, but could be creative keepsakes forever.

Everlasting ideas such as trees and plants make creative baby shower gifts too. While baby clothes or a rattle is a nice idea, a tree that will grow and flourish as the child also grows, is a true gift a baby can experience as he grows. Consider the gift of a tree from sisters or other family members. This way you can split the cost with other relatives, and you will also be able to stop by and see the tree often.

Some other gift ideas include buying a savings bond or starting a college fund for the baby. A gift of money is a particularly welcome one for a new baby’s parents, especially in this present economy. This gift is an ideal one for grandparents to give.

This final baby shower gift idea is one of my personal favorites: a spa party. Rather than just playing baby games, focus on the new mom and make her feel special. Why not give her a spa shower which will help her to relax, and enjoy time with those she loves. After all, once the baby arrives, new mums scarcely have time to think, let alone have a luxurious bath. A great idea for a creative baby shower gift is to give the mom-to-be something that will pamper her and prepare her for her new role as a mother.

In the end, an ideal gift is one that takes into account the unique characteristics of the mother-to-be. If she loves cooking, why not a baby recipe book. If she’s interested in gardening, perhaps a garden themed idea such as some potted flowers would be ideal. If you put enough genuine thought into it, you will definitely have a creative baby shower gift!
