Question by : How exactly does a baby shower work?
I was wondering if anyone could tell me how a baby shower works. I’m currently 6 months pregnant so am I supposed to throw my own baby shower? Generally when does one have a baby shower? My mom said she wanted to throw a baby shower for me and if she does am I supposed to help pay for it? I’d just like to know everything about bs’s. I’m asking in the newborns section because i’m guessing that since you’ve already had your babies then you’ve also already had your baby shower. I’m having a boy if it matters. Please and thank you :)

You most certainly do NOT throw your own baby shower! Your mom or a good friend normally throws it and arranges/pays for everything. You can have a giant baby shower at a restaurant or a nice home baby shower (I prefer the ones at home – not as expensive and more intimate which this should be). Usually it’s held when you are about 8 months pregnant – gives you time to buy whatever you need that you don’t get at the shower. Babies R Us and Target/Wal-Mart are good places to register and when the planner sends out the invites she can include where you are registered. By the way, I love when people register someplace…that way I know what you want/need!!! Makes my life easier. Make sure to registration has a nice variety of price ranges going from a crib to a pack of diapers.

What baby shower gift did you find most useful?

Question by C: What baby shower gift did you find most useful?
I’m going to a baby shower next month and I want to get her something that will be put to good use.

A pre-made scrapbook.. we actually did this as the activity at the baby shower instead of playing games but you could make one before you go… it is very sentimental because everyone at my shower made a page (though you would be making the whole thing) and its SUPER nice for me because I can just put pictures on and not have to mess with finding time to make pages with a baby!!

EDIT::: Just a warning about diapers for a gift.. I always use to give size 1 or 2 diapers until I had my own daughter… a lot of people got me diapers… mostly luvs and huggies and well luvs make her bottom break out and she leaks out of huggies because they don’t fit her right… so I had to give all the diapers away and buy my own pampers… so just a little thought to consider about that

Question by uncoyly: For those who are buying baby gifts for their friends’, what would make the process easier?
For those who have friends who are having kids, what would make it easier for you to get them a gift? A wish list from them? A guide about what new parents need? A “baby” consultant :) ? Is it even a pain point to get the baby a unique gift, or do you find the whole deal pretty straightforward?
Thanks.

A wish list is particularly helpful. Why buy your friend a bunch of Winnie the Pooh stuff if she’s decorating with Noah’s Ark? Know what I mean. It’s also really helpful to know the sex of the child if the parents know and are willing to share that information.

My standard baby gift is a nice board book, a pack of diapers and a box of wipes. When I was a first-time mom, the diapers I got at my shower were pretty boring, I much preferred looking at all the cute little clothes. But as an experienced mom of now 5 children, diapers are very much appreciated. Especially if it’s a 2nd or subsequent child for the friend. They will already have all the basic equipment and probably some clothes. You don’t really need that many clothes for a new baby because they outgrow them so quickly anyway.

If I’m very close with the friend and know her taste preferences, what she already has and the sex of the baby, it’s really simple to come up with a unique gift. If the friend is not very close, then yes… it’s kind of a pain to try to come up with something that you don’t feel like she’s going to return right away anyway. :D

Q&A: Baby gifts for the parents who have everything?

Question by falsumnomen: Baby gifts for the parents who have everything?
My friend just had a baby and she and her husband already have everything they need–and they are financially well-off, so they won’t need diapers or formula. I would like to give them a great and lasting gift, not just a jumper or a blanket. I was thinking of something more along the lines of a savings bond or something else kind of unrelated to newborn babies, but I think it may be too impersonal. Again, I would like a gift that would last a long time. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
These are such great ideas! Thanks everyone!

Selecting The Perfect Baby Presents

It seems as though there’s never been more baby presents on the market than there is today. Although, traditionally, baby showers were given prior to the birth of the little one, today some mothers are opting to wait until the child is a few months old in order to share the joy with their friends and family. Gifts will differ significantly between the two types of parties.

Although tempting because they’re so cute, for newborn clothing should not be restricted in size. Babies grow so fast that before a mom knows it she will need to completely replace the wardrobe. Many mothers today, therefore, appreciate gifts that ensure baby’s needs are met beyond the first few weeks. For those considering purchasing clothing or a baby shower, selecting sizes between 9 and 18 months will ensure that this need will be met as the baby grows.

Fortunately today, there are many styles, colours, and patterns that are appropriate for both boys and girls. If one knows the sex of the child prior to the shower, selecting an appropriate outfit is rather easy. However, if the parents wish to be surprised along with everyone else, choosing carefully by ensuring clothing is not gender specific is important.

Baby blankets have always been a popular choice at showers. The problem is that there comes a time when the number exceeds the need. However, rarely are things that are really needed immediately even considered for gift-giving. For instance, filling a baby bathtub with powders, lotions, shampoos, T-shirts, and diapers is not only unexpected, but really appreciated by new parents.

For those with sewing ability, which can include knitting and crocheting, homemade presents are always appreciated by new parents. There are many adorable patterns available if one already knows the sex of the child. A frilly dress for a little girl or a train engineers overall outfit for a little boy is always a delight. As with buying clothing, however, it’s important to consider the materials and colours that will be used regardless of whether one knows the sex of the child or not.

Any baby present given should be special, needed, and memorable. Extravagance is not a necessity. As a matter of fact, the little things can often be of benefits for parents. With today’s technology this is becoming easier than ever. Gift registration ensures that duplication is limited. However, it’s important to check with family and friends, especially for larger items, in order to ensure that they have not already been purchased.

Selecting the perfect baby presents have never been easier. Regardless of how well one might know the mother-to-be or the new mom, giving gifts that are functional, creative, and thoughtful will help make their special day even that much more special.

Choosing The Right Baby Presents

Choosing The Right Baby Presents

There is nothing more precious than a newborn baby. After months of waiting, this new addition to the human race arrives. This is the time when baby presnets are really appreciated.

The first opportunity to present gifts, for the baby, usually comes at a baby shower. These gifts help with the expenses of clothing the new arrival, as well as helping get things prepared for the occasion. When purchasing a gift for the shower, some things should be considered.

The traditional colors for new babies are blue for boys and pink for girls. In today’s market, one can find many items that include these colors combined, in patterns, with others. This makes it possible, if the sex is not known, to choose something that will be appropriate whether it is a boy or girl. Blankets with these patterns are especially attractive.

If choosing wearing apparel, remember that a baby grows very rapidly and will quickly outgrow a garment that is especially made for ‘newborn’. This means that if the parents receive a large number of these, some will not be used. It is better to choose something that is 6 months to a year. This will really be appreciated when the baby gets bigger.

While diapers are not ‘pretty’ or ‘unusual’, they are the most appreciated gift one can give. In this case, ‘newborn’ is fine as they will be used up before the baby gets to the stage of needing a larger size. These diapers can be presented, nicely wrapped, with a rattle or small gift tied on the outside ribbon.

A baby album or feeding set is always a welcome addition, as well. However, it should be remembered that only one album or one feeding set will be used. Therefore, it is always a good idea to have the purchase receipt, to give the mother, in case another similar gift is presented. This will allow her to make an exchange rather than have something that will never be used.

Baby presents are often presented after the baby is born. If possible, it is a good idea to determine what the parents would like to receive. They may be lacking, or short of, certain items that are needed and which would be appreciated. If not wishing to ask them directly it would be appropriate to ask a relative. If this is not possible, than any gift for the baby would be happily received. Baby presents are fun to buy, as well as give, with all the beautiful things that are on today’s market.

Baby R Us is a great site that I would recommend. They have literally thousands upon thousands of things you can choose from for gifts to a newly expecting mom & dad. Everything from the ordinary such as bottles, blankets, and diapers, to the necessary such as cribs, thermometers, and clothes. Even the omg-cannot-live-without things like breast pumps, baby monitors, and those mesmerizing toys that keep kids entertained and quiet. Check out for yourself and see. In addition, tell your friend I said Congratulations! Cheers!

Question by pounce: baby gifts?
my really good friend is having a baby in October. I’ve already started buying her gifts now because I’m soo excited. I bought her a few outfits for the soon to come baby girl. I also got an old baby changing table that I’m going to restore for her. It has three drawers and a place to hang a blanker. I’m going to put things inside it for the baby shower, like extra gifts. But, I don;t know what. Moms and dads of newborns, what does she really need? What do you run out of or can never have too many of?
